The Roman writer Pliny, in his Natural History about 2,000 years ago, said that Homer’s epic poem, the Iliad, which consisted of 24 books, was copied in so tiny a handwriting that it could fit in a nutshell. Bishop of Avranches proved it possible by copying the Iliad on two-third of a regular page. In about 1590, Peter Bales in England actually wrote a Bible so small that it could fit in a walnut shell.
