Like a Ton of Bricks——沉重打擊

    ~~ hit like a ton of bricks // come down like a ton of bricks // a ton of bricks // like a load of bricks

    !! This expression originated in early 19th-centuryAmerica as "a thousand of bricks or hundred of bricks."  At that time, bricks in such quantity were more commonly counted by the number than weighed.  Sometime in the early 20th century it was replaced by "ton."

    （這種表達方式起源於十九世紀初的美國，稱為“一千塊磚或一百塊磚”。當時，這種數量的磚塊多數是按數量計算而不是秤重。在二十世紀初的某個時候，它被“噸”所取代。）

    !! In 1842, Caroline Kirkland wrote in Forest Life: "If folks is sassy, we walk right into ‘em like a thousand o’ brick."
